Forbes reported on Tuesday that Minneapolis was ranked the best city in the U.S. in which to find employment. Of the ten cities ranked by Ajilon, a nationwide recruitment firm, Minneapolis has the lowest unemployment rate, highest quality of life, and a wide range of industries for employees.

“The quality of life in Minneapolis overall tends to be high,” says Jodi Chavez, senior vice president of Ajilon. “The city has low crime rates and poverty rates and relatively low cost of living while being one of the major metropolitan centers of the Midwest. The Minneapolis–St. Paul market is in somewhat of a sweet spot, offering jobs with relatively high pay while having a low cost of living.” Minnesota weathered the recession relatively well, and hiring has been gradually picking up in recent months. Due to these same factors, Minneapolis has consistently ranked high in job-related reports in the last year. In July of 2010, Forbes Woman named Minneapolis the Best City for Working Mothers, citing low crime rates and high earnings for women, as well as good education and health care, and low cost of living.

In February, the Associated Press reported the Minneapolis-St. Paul Metro area a top 5 metro for job growth. The unemployment rate, around 6.5%, is one of the lowest in the nation.  In addition, growth in the Information Technology sector has boosted new job postings.
